Juergen Wastl
A molecular biologist and biochemist by training, Juergen Wastl has built a career at the intersection of research, data, and strategy across industry, government, funder and higher education. As part of Digital Science’s Thought Leadership team, he leads initiatives in research evaluation and global challenges by advising funders and policymakers on how to navigate the evolving geopolitical landscape of science. His work connects evidence-based evaluation with global policy priorities, fostering resilience, integrity, and innovation in research ecosystems. Before joining Digital Science, Juergen led the Research Information team at the University of Cambridge’s Research Strategy Office, overseeing research evaluation, analytics, and implementation of scholarly infrastructure. He also brings extensive consultancy experience supporting governments, funding agencies, and non-profit organizations across Europe and beyond in developing data-driven strategies for responsible and secure research.
Marko Zovko
Marko Zovko is a research and innovation professional with over a decade of experience working alongside government, funding, and academic organisations worldwide. His work focuses on providing innovative technology solutions, data, and expertise that advance the research lifecycle, making processes more efficient, data more impactful, and collaboration more seamless. Marko advises ministries and government agencies on research policies and national priorities, supports funding organisations in portfolio analysis and data-driven investment decisions, and helps research-intensive institutions identify networks and address research security risks
